世界には様々な植物が存在します。
その国にしか生息していな植物や、手に入りにくいレア種、綴化などによってフォルムが崩れた珍しい植物などなど。
これらを総称して珍奇植物 - Bizarre Plants(ビザールプランツ)と呼ばれています。

A rare plant that is hard to find.
Oddly shaped or variegated plants…etc,
定義が何かって聞かれると、正直我々Lighthouse Plantsにはわかりません。
「あなたがそれをBPlantsビザールプランツだと思えばそれはビザールプランツでしょう！」と個人的には思っています。
But it doesn't have a definition.
Frankly, we don't know either.
If you think so, that would be Bizarre Plants!
「ここでしか育たない植物があるから」
Lighthouse Plantsが扱う植物は、全てヨーロッパにある知人のナーセリーから輸入した植物達です。
では、Lighthouse Plantsがなぜこの知人のナーセリーからわざわざ植物を輸入するのか。

Our plants are imported to Japan from our friends in Europe.
Why do we import it?
Because there are plants that grow only in that area.
もちろん、知人が運営しているのが一つの理由ですが、それより何より、「ここでしか育たない植物があるから」。
これに付きます。
日本の冬よりも更に過酷な立地
ではなぜここのナーセリーでしか育たない植物があるのか。
その理由は立地にあります。
このナーセリーの地域は、寒暖差が激しく、高地にあります。
特に冬。
この時期の寒暖差が最も激しく、寒さに強い植物が育ちます。
その過酷な環境で育った植物は、交配を繰り返すことで寒さに強い個体として育ち、尚かつ小さな苗でも木質化したり、モンストしたり、アウレアになったりと、様々な表情を見せる植物に育ちます。

They are small, but they are Woody, Monstre, and Aurea
「え？これがオベサ…？」
具体的にどのような植物があるのか。
まず初めにLighthouse Plantsの目に留まったのは、ユーフォルビア オベサ ( Euphorbia Obesa )でした。
そのナーセリーで初めてオベサを見た時、非常に驚きました。
「え？これがオベサ？2つとして同じ表情のオベサがいない…」。
[ ?!! …Is this OBESA ? ]
We were very surprised and interested in OBESA in the Nursery.
Those OBESA are all different, even though they are the same species.
? ! ! ! ….Is this OBESA ?
日本の実生オベサはどれもツルッとした肌感をしています。
木質化もせず、表情も同じような物が多いですよね。
稜が9稜以上のオベサを見る程度で、どれも優等生株。
それとは全く異なるオベサ達を見て、初めはオベサだと思えなかった程です。
しかし環境、そして長年繰り返される交配によって、これらのオベサたちが生まれたことを聞いて納得しました。
At first I couldn't believe it was an OBESA.
Because the shape of Japanese seedlings OBESA is round and smooth.
It was completely different from the European seedlings OBESA.
きっかけは”オベサ アウレア”
その中でも特に珍しいのが「オベサ アウレア - Euphorbia Obesa Aurea」。
ここでしか育たない植物。まさにビザールプランツです。
It all started with OBESA AUREA.
OBESA AUREA is a Bizarre plant that only grows in my friend's nursery.
これと出会った瞬間、Lighthouse Plantsが誕生致しました。
LIGHTHOUSE PLANTS was born when I met OBESA AUREA.
